assignment 8

Hart Crane was a poet who lived in the United States of America, he was born in the year 1899 and died in the year 1932. This meant that he only reached the age of 33, but in his short life he became one of the most famous writers of the United States of America in that time. The letter Hart Crane wrote to Emily Dickinson is called ‘to Emily Dickinson’. This letter is directed to Emily Dickinson. This is a letter, but Hart Crane uses a lot of stylistic devices. For example alliteration this can be seen in the second line of the second stanza, it says ‘sweet silencer, most suddenly clear’. Three of the five words start with an ‘s’ which is an alliteration. The theme dead is, also represented in this letter, because in the last two lines of second stanza. The two lines indicate that every breath you take (lungs) can be the last one and it uses the word eternity which also can be linked with the theme death.
