The Dutch government and the Norsefire government have really different ideologies on how to rule a country. The question why are these governments different and what kind of ideologies the want to follow. The both have their own arguments on why there government is the best. Where the Dutch government is a democracy.
The Dutch government uses democracy as there political ideology. In the Netherlands we have the best type of democracy, in where the people have the most voice. In the Dutch parliament there 150 politicians who are chosen by the population, because they vote on which political party they prefer. One politician represent one of the 150 of all the votes. So a particular party could have 20 seats and another party 2. Some political parties think that we need to go to a better type of democracy where the population have more to say on what the government wants to decide, because now all the decisions are taken by the politicians that are sitting population without any interference of the population of the Netherlands
This ideology means that citizens have freedom of speech. the journalist have freedom of press not only this, but they also strive for equality for everyone for their citizens. Democracy is one of the oldest political ideologies and it is by most people seen as the best for its population.
The Norsefire government uses fascism as there ideology. Fascism is when the population have to obey their leaders and can form their own political ideology or their own plans that they have for the country. Their citizens have no freedom of speech and there is no freedom of press. In fascism there is believed that one strong leader is the best to rule over there citizens and that all the decision need to be taken by the leader. This, is mostly all noted in all their laws. In fascist countries corruption is a big problem, because the money is not equally divided and the most influential people or friends of the leaders where huger parts of the money goes to. This can mean that most influential people are rich and there citizens suffer from poverty.
In the book you see that there is a link between the old Nazi’s where Hitler was the leader. This is, because the citizens did exact same salute as the citizens did under the rule of dictator Hitler. On the first page they want to make clear that the population are watched every second, this can be recognized by all the cameras that there to control the population. The author wants to create a really bad world where no one is safe where you do not want to live in. There where swastika drawn all over the book where they want to make a clear link between the fascist Nazi government and the Norsefire, but this also a flashback to fascist government where Mussolini was in power of.
When I read this graphic novel I also immediately saw so many differences between the Norsefire and the Dutch government. The only thing that had in common is that both thing they are doing the best they can for its citizens. In the Netherlands the citizens are also controlled by camera’s, but is no shape of form equal to that under the rule of the government. The Dutch government, also has a really different motivation for this, because they want know when someone has stolen something or drove to fats on the road, where the Norsefire government, also has political motivation by this. So, That everything is controlled and that there citizens are not going to revolt against their leader.
In democracy it possible to demonstrate against the government when you are not in line with the ideas they have for their country. This is under the rule of the Norsefire government absolutely not possible, because V also protested against the government, he did in an extreme form, but this let his execution. Revolt against the government is used not possible, because you will be sentenced immediately. In democracy everyone is equal it does not matter which race you are and you are not being discriminant on race or being treated worse than white citizens for example. Freedom of press is important in the Netherlands, because journalists can for example be negative against the government and can publish this in their newspaper.
In conclusion, the two government do not have a lot in common and they are almost all different on their ideas on the politics In their country and want they have a different of ruling over their population.
